Robert Mays  3 miles away in Odiham, is the nearest state secondary school.

Doctors, Dentists and Hospitals
There are doctors and dentist practices in Odiham and Hook, and several in Basingstoke. The nearest NHS Hospital with A&E is the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Aldermaston Road, Basingstoke (473202). The Hampshire Clinic in Old Basing is the nearest private hospital unit.

Refuse Collection and Recycling
Council refuse collection day is Wednesday. You are asked to place recyclable plastics, paper, cardboard and cans in the green bins, which are collected alternate Wednesdays. To see what you can and can’t put in the green bins, click here. Glass does not go in the green bins but separate plastic boxes are provided to each household. During summer, the council collects green garden waste from households who have registered for the service and paid the appropriate fee – click here for details.  There are Council Recycling Centres at Wade Road, Basingstoke and Hartley Wintney.

Buses & Trains
There are bus services to Odiham and Alton (most during school terms) which pick up from outside the Hoddington Arms. The Traveline or Transport Direct websites provide information. Basingstoke Dial-A-Ride is a door to door service for anyone who finds it difficult or impossible to use ordinary bus services: ring 01256 462101 to request a registration form. The nearest main-line train services operate from Hook and Winchfield. Basingstoke station (15 minutes by car) offers faster services to London Waterloo, Southampton and the South West. The Long Sutton school bus is operated by Weavaway Travel of Newbury (01635 820028); the pick-up point is by the pub.

The village sits in a Conservation Area and all of our mature trees are protected. If you want to make any changes to them you need consent from the Borough Planning Officer for trees.
