Upton Grey had a WI for nearly 100 years from 1916 but in the 21st century enthusiasm waned and there were difficulties filling places on the committee, and early in 2014 a meeting was held to suspend the group.

An “Upton Grey Ladies Group” was then formed – because the previous WI members still wanted to meet but without the trappings of the WI red tape!

The group meets once a month and have theatre trips, craft days, visits to gardens and places of interest etc. There are some evening meetings and some in the afternoon, to accommodate everyone they can. The group is appealing to a wider circle of ladies now that they are no longer “the WI Ladies”!
